Savoy can only blame themselves for Sunday’s two-nil loss to visiting Salisbury Inter.
The locals played some awful soccer in the first half, and to top off had some fatal goalkeeping along the way.
The John Smith-mentored Green and Whites could not play the best selection available – both Vincent DeGioia and Sam Salvemini out after both had tallied maximum yellow cards.
Whenever Savoy cannot get its best group on the park it becomes too unsettled and unfortunately does not win.
On Sunday both Josef Caputo and Scott Scarman come into the starting 11 and together played up front against an Inter outfit, that probably does not rate in the top three teams Savoy has played this season.
Funnily enough the ladder does not lie and the Joe McGregor-coached team has climbed into third position with minium fuss.
None-the-less a howler by Savoy goal keeper Luke Ferme at the 14th minute mark saw the Joel Leikas kicked ball go through his legs,.
Then at the 25th minute a failure to intercept Ross Tripodi, as Salisbury Inter skipped to a two-nil lead.
The score line was not through Inter’s good soccer but Savoy’s bad, and at the long break the home team had plenty to do.
For two thirds of the second half Savoy played far better soccer and stretched its opponents as it tried to get back in the game, albeit it never had a shot on goals.
However, the tone of the contest soon changed when Savoy’s Terry McGinnis and his Inter counterpart got tangled up in a fight.
Both were sent off at the 73rd minute of the game
The remainder of the contest levelled out, but it was obvious Savoy’s ability to score goals was non existent.
The home team’s efforts was billed as the worse performance in over a month.
Salisbury Inter won Sunday’s game two-nil, but by all accounts a more concentrated Savoy endeavour may well have seen a different outcome.
The visitors defended well and did play a solid game, but it was Savoy that was found out once players could not be considered.
