Krahnert umpires first A grade game

01 Feb, 2012 03:58 PM
Richard Krahnert umpired his first A grade game of cricket on Sunday, for the game between Props and Wandearah.

Krahnert initially took up umpiring “seven or eight years” ago, as a way for giving something back to the sport he had played.

“When I first started (umpiring) that worried me a bit – the flack I would cop from the players and that but they were good,” Krahnert said.

He said as well as knowing the rules, he officiated by calling “what I see”.

“I love it – I am giving back to cricket what cricket gave me because I played for a long time.

“Plus you are out there with the buys as well – it is a bit of camaraderie.”

Krahnert is a life member of Risdon Cricket Club, for whom he played, most notably as a bowler.

This week he will take charge of the Solly v Risdon game on Sunday.
