Sollies will be hoping to bounce back after a thrashing at the hands of Props last week but it won’t be easy as it is up against Wandearah at Memorial Oval on Saturday afternoon, who have been in good form themselves.
Sollies are going with youth and had a very young side in last week.
This is fine when you are struggling but getting beaten so badly so often will not help the development of these young players.
Maybe a few more experienced players and less young players might be the way to go.
Mick Waters, Damien Hardaker, Trent Petersen and Sean Seidel are the experienced players in the side, the rest of the side is around 20 or younger.
Ash Johnson has stepped up this year, as has Nick Hill, who has taken a few wickets but still needs to get more consistent line and length.
Nick Wauchope and Riley Hayes also looked good on the weekend but are probably still a year or two away from consistent performances.
Wandearah on the other hand has got a very experienced line up with nine or 10 of their current players having played in at least one premiership if not more.
Greg Carmody, likely to be this year’s Grewar Medallist, is having a great season with both bat and ball.
Matt Thornton has slotted in nicely to the openers role and with Marcus Ganley, Scott Gray, Cody Brooke, Marc Congdon and “Shocker” O’Shaugnessy all capable of making 50.
It is not an easy line-up to bowl to. Wandies also have a superior bowling attack on paper.
Brooke, Thornton, Congdon, Matt Thomson and Dave Clarke are the pace attack and as mentioned before Carmody is always a wicket taker with his off spin.
It would be good to see Sollies really compete with such a good cricket side, but I don’t think they have the quality or consistency at this stage in their development.
Wandearah will have an easy victory in this game.
