This week’s basketball game between Pirie Panthers and Prince Alfred Old Collegians will be Nelson Magor’s last hit- out before he heads to the United States to tour high school teams as part of the South Australian Country Development Network Squad Program.
Pirie Panthers men will field one of their strongest teams this week with an excellent balance of strong high leaping and dunking inside players, combined with excellent outside shooting headed by Stuart Yates who has been in impeccable form and dominated games so far this year.
Craig Jamar and Magor both have the ability to dominant inside and then add in Lyall Gillett and there will promises to be a lot of action above the ring.
Gillett’s agility and speed is without equal and makes him one of the most dominant players going not only locally but state wide. Ryan Hoare’s speed and offensive weapons will prove a challenge for any defensive player he encounters this weekend. Brad Ley will again return to the Panthers line-up and he and Matt Leske have been in excellent form in the local competition.
Prince Alfred Old Collegians have taken the local A grade competition in Adelaide so whilst they remain a little unknown they clearly can play and scouts suggest they have some tall timber with some of their players being part of the SA Country Junior program as coaches.
The women’s game will see a rematch with the Whyalla Steelers.
The Pirie women much like the men will field on of their strongest side and look to return to favour handed out by Whyalla when they met a month ago.
Air-conditioned Donaldson Stadium will be the place to be this Saturday night where the drinks are cold and the action hot.
The disco held after games has become a real hit with local crowds who have enjoyed the action starting at 6.30 pm.
Shooting clinics will be held for kids between 6.30 and 7pm and the first 30 kids to make a foul shot win a Powerade
