Line-ups should be settled

26 Nov, 2009 12:07 PM
Team line ups in each grade should by now be a little settled as we approach the three week run up to the Christmas break.

There are two clubs in particular who are still struggling with this concept and who have had two or three A Grade standard players play down in A2 most weeks. Both clubs have teams in every grade and both U/16 and A3 players to draw on, who, you would think would really benefit from the experience, playing in the higher grade and who would provide more of a long term solution to only having a core of six or seven players in A2 than constantly bring players who have played in A1 down to fill the gaps.

Not to mention the difference it has made to one team in particular’s ability to score runs.

I would imagine things are going to get a whole lot tougher come the end of January when the number of games a player goes up to play are counted – three up stay up/or down – and there are seven games that they will need to cover.

Congratulations to Cougars A1 Merridy Fetherstonhaugh on playing her 200th Senior game for her club last weekend.

Junior players are reminded that there are no games for U/8 – U/13 Girls and Boys on Saturday the 5th of December to allow families to attend the Christmas Pageant.

Panel umpires are also advised to check the roster as attached to this article to check that their umpiring allocations have not changed. This week’s duties appear below.

A1

1.30 – Cats/Ann

3.15 – Jenny/ Tigers

Men

1.30 – Nigel/ C/Mates

5.00 – John/Cougars

A2

1.30 – John/ Tigers

3.15 – S Ciampi/ Cats

A3

1.30 – Maureen/ C/Mates

5.00 – Bev/Cameron

U/16 Girls

9.30 – Jan/ Cody

12.00 – Rocky/ Danielle

U/16 Boys

12.00 – Nigel/ Cougars

A2 Women

Solly Cats and Cougars are off to diamond six to play the early game this Saturday.

Both teams won one of their two games played last weekend and will be out to assert their authority early to give the opposition the runs to chase.

Cougar’s players to do well were Simone Kemp, Keera Watkins and Chantelle Waldhuter. Cats scored consistently in last week’s catch up game and congratulations to Keana Northcott who made the jump up to A2 from A3 to fill in and not only had a couple of safe hits including a three bagger but was also listed amongst their best players.

Cats are known for their preference for scoring a few runs at a time and Cougars will need to stop the flow whilst getting a score of their own going.

Tigers play Checkmates in the late game and Tigers will need to be at their best to cut off the fire power of Checkmates batters especially if their fill in player’s trend continues.

Helen Webb, Leonora Neil and Rebecca Doyle Tigers players who are quite likely to factor in this defensive equation.

Men

Saturday will see another double header in this grade. Tigers Gold, the team who are up for the double game this time around. Players in the men’s sides are reminded that you need to be in uniform after your third game and that you have diamond duties that need to be done after you play. Tigers Gold vs Tigers Black is the first clash and Tigers Gold would be odds on to take this one out based on their current form but I wouldn’t be taking the Black team too lightly. Tigers Gold’s Phil Watts, Scott Smith and Marcellus Enalanga have been impressive and will need to be contained.

Sean Dunning, Kieran and Jabin Clayton will be among the Tigers Black players to look for the win from the outset of this game.

Tigers Gold will then come up against Checkmates at 5.00 o’clock. A single run separated these two sides last time they played and I expect this game to be close as well. Good to see U/16 players Ben Passmore, Andrew Preece and Marcellus Enalanga taking a leap of faith into this grade for their respective sides and doing well.

U/16 Boys

The results in the form of the runs scored by both Checkmates and Tigers over the last few weeks have been quite close, but Checkmates have just managed to get across the line.

Checkmates Cody Simms, Brynn Haywood and Alec Steff played well last week and will be looking to take this type of form into this game. Jacob power, Joshua Anderson/ Peters and Luke Brown will be working with their Tigers teammates to put the score in their favour.

Tigers have come oh so close will this be the week they take the two points?
