Juniors record outstanding tennis results

30 Jan, 2012 01:42 PM
Port Pirie and District Junior Tennis has had an outstanding two months.

The top run started with winning the inter-association match against Barossa 36 sets 358 games to 33 sets 313 games.

This was a good hit out for the players who then went on to Country Carnival in Adelaide in January.

They took out two titles at that event - the under 12 and the under 16 boys’ teams events.

Mitchell Buchanan, John Seindanis, Charlie Southam and Nelson Ferme won the 16 and under boys’ division two for Port Pirie at the Country Carnival event in Adelaide.

The boys come away undefeated from their four matches.,

They were programmed to play six matches but rain interrupted two matches.

Mitchell Buchanan at number one single had some tough opposition winning one out of four singles.

John Seindanis and Charlie Southam at two and three singles respectively both came away with four wins apiece.

Nelson Ferme at number four single won two singles.

The 12 and under boys’ division one team to also win a title consisted of Samuel Ferme, Anthony Oliphant, Reid Heidrich and a player from the Southern Tennis Association – Adam Way.

They represented Port Pirie, after the association found it difficult for the first time in many years to be able to fill a side and had to find a player from another country association to help out.

The boys played six matches and came away from the carnival undefeated.

Samuel Ferme had some tough opponents at number one, winning three out of his six singles matches.

Anthony was undefeated in his singles at number two for the week.

Reid Heidrich grew with each match that he played winning four out of his six single matches.

Adam Way was a great asset to the team winning five out of his six matches at number four for the week.

Another asset to the team was the doubles’ combination of Samuel and Anthony at the top double.

These two boys played really well together and didn’t lose a match.

The boys played on clay, grass and hardcourt which tested their ability to adapt to the different ways to approach the ball.
