While most junior sports are coming back from a summer break, one club in Port Pirie didn’t have that much time to stop and enjoy the good weather.
Gymnastics is primarily an all year round sport, so there is only a small break before it is back to training.
The group has competitions in May which means if they do not start training from now, they will not be fit enough.
Coach Lee-ann Nayda says the team works pretty hard.
“We train the children to become future stars of Port Pirie. They are well conditioned – psychologically and physically.”
The advanced team is made up of keen 6 to thirteen year old boys and girls, all who are full of potential.
Jess Marwick has just turned ten and has quickly progressed through to level four.
Lee-ann says this is because her strength is producing power. It will be a big year for the junior gymnasts, with level four children off to Adelaide to participate in a choreography workshop with world-renown Canadian gymnast, Stacey Umeh-Lees who now works at the Australian Institute of Sport.
Most of the gymnast group will also be heading off to Melbourne to see the Pacific Rim Championships where countries like America and China will be competing.
