Can Solomontown take out the top team?

07 Aug, 2009 11:51 AM

Solomontown travels to Port Augusta on Saturday to play a Central Augusta side that will be determined to bounce back from its 24-point loss to Port last weekend.

Central Augusta are still sitting top of the ladder two points plus percentage ahead of the rest of the field and could have been further ahead if they had won on Sunday.

They are not yet guaranteed to finish with a double chance and still have work to do to achieve this.

The race for the best position at the end of the minor round is hotting up and no side can afford to drop what are deemed easy games at this time of the year. This week’s match is one Centrals would be expected to win and give them a boost with three difficult games to come to wrap up the minor round.

Solomontown have little to lose and would like nothing more than to upset one of the top sides and record a much awaited victory. However, last time these two sides met the margin was 93 points and Centrals would be hoping for a repeat performance.

Central Augusta will be relying on their big guns in Mark Fuller, Shane Curnow, Ryan Morris and Peter Jackson firing against the Cats with the Jackson versus Craig Tee duel being worth the entrance fee.

Solomontown showed in the first term last week what sort of football they are capable of and they are improving at each outing.

There are plenty of reasons for the Cats supporters to be optimistic about the future and will be hoping for a longer sustained effort this week.

Lindsay Bearman, Jarrad Davies, Marc Scollin, Matt Turner and Craig Tee will again be called on to lead the way and allow the younger players to get another game and experience under their belts.

It is difficult to tip against Central Augusta and they should bounce back and record a solid win and remain on top of the ladder.
