Traffic hazard

02 Jul, 2009 10:07 AM
Fears have been raised about the risk of serious crashes at a busy intersection.

The concerns relate to traffic congestion at the corner of York Road and The Terrace.

At the latest council meeting, Cr Joe Paparella vowed to fix the problem.

He said there was congestion in the early mornings when people were going to work and had appointments at the hospital.

“There have been some close calls,” he said. “Do we have to wait for an accident to happen?”

He said the problem would not go away and would become worse.

“There are more visiting specialists

coming to the hospital and this could increase the intensity,” he said.

“I am determined to get the problem fixed for the safety of the community.”

He said it could be a case of having better traffic management at the intersection.

Manager of technical services Len Wilton said his staff would have to look at the

intersection.

“We need to determine the issues and clarify whether it is a short term matter,” he said.

He said they would have to investigate the matter before finding a solution.
