We live in a diverse world and so it is days like Harmony Day that help us to better reflect on what this means to us in our everyday lives.
Celebrated on March 21 each year, this event is managed by the Immigration and Citizenship Department and celebrated in communities across the country.
Since Harmony Day began in 1999, thousands of schools, community groups and organisations have hosted events and Port Pirie was no exception.
Children from Solomontown Kindergarten proudly displayed their orange clothes and were involved in activities when The Recorder came to visit.
Continuing the Harmony Day message Everyone Belongs, kindergarten director Leonie Giancaspro said she was happy for the children to be involved in the day which highlighted the importance of diversity through action, performance, fashion and food.
The children enjoyed having reception students visit from nearby Solomontown Primary School as well as playing games together, doing fun activities and even some orange cooking.
Jasmyn Burnell, 4, said she liked playing with her sister Tamika in the sandpit best and seeing her friends at kindergarten was fun, too.
“I have lots of friends,” she said. Children and adults alike gave the freshly-baked scones with orange jam a big thumbs-up and the fashions of the day were a talking point so all-in-all a good time was had at Solomontown Primary School on Harmony Day.
