Radio show features a ‘stack’ of residents

04 Feb, 2010 01:25 PM
Morning radio stars with the ABC, Matthew Abraham and David Bevan, broadcasted live from Port Pirie on Tuesday.

This was part of their country road trip

looking at the upcoming State election.

A crowd of about 50 people gathered at the front of the Port Pirie Regional Council Chambers to question the Frome election candidates on issues from the Point Lowly desalination plant to controversial internet laws.

The duo interviewed Liberal Party candidate Terry Boylan, Country Labor’s John Rohde and Independent sitting member Geoff Brock.

The three answered questions from callers and the crowd.

Family First candidate John McComb was unable to participate in the debate due to work.

It is not known whether candidates from the Greens or National Party will run.

Among the crowd were members of the Whyalla Save Point Lowly group and Greens candidate for Giles, Andrew Melville-Smith.

Mayor Brenton Vanstone and Nyrstar general manager, Glenn Poynter, were at the broadcast.

John Pirie Secondary School students Yorke Heath and Alex Cominos closed the debate with a live vocal and guitar performance.
