Take a visit to the seaside town of Port Germein, where the jetty is long and you can view the Spencer Gulf.
A website was launched called www.portgermein.com in an effort to boost tourism to the Southern Flinders Ranges town.
Most of us know Port Germein for its long jetty, nice beach and as a good fishing destination.
But explore this quiet town beyond the foreshore and you will be surprised at what it has to offer.
Resident Marj Johns initially came to Port Germein 25 years ago for a holiday home and has stayed ever since.
She said a lot of people had come to the town with ideas but nothing had happened.
“It would not hurt to promote Port Germein a bit more,” she said.
“The council does not do much, perhaps they could help.”
Originally from Halton, in the Adelaide Hills, Mrs Johns loves the environment that the town has to offer.
“It is nice and quiet,” she said.
“I enjoy living by the sea.”
She said it was a pity the Pier Café did not stay open in the town.
“A café could be essential for the town,” she said. Over Easter tourists flocked to the town, with Mrs Johns saying there were about 25 cars parked along the seafront at one time.
On Good Friday there was about 58 people on the jetty at night.
She said the town was good for fishing and crabbing.
“You can get beautiful whiting here,” she said.
“We have a few holiday homes in the town.”
Mrs Johns said they got a few weekenders come to the town.
“There are some new homes being built,” she said.
The Port Germein website provides some advice on what you can see and do in the town.
There is also a section about catching, cooking and eating crabs.
The town is ideally situated 20 minutes from Port Pirie as well as being a short drive from the picturesque Telowie Gorge.
Once a month the town’s village project has a roast to raise money for charity.
Get in your car, go for a drive and enjoy what Port Germein has to offer.
