Pirie's Tarzan beats off croc

15 Mar, 2011 10:08 AM
Port Pirie’s own ‘Tarzan’ is recovering in hospital in Cairns after beating off a four-metre crocodile that leapt out of a river and attacked him.

Todd Bairstow was fishing beside a river at Weipa when the struggle took place in an incident reminiscent of the exploits of the King of the Jungle.

Tarzan, star of many movies, would often fight and kill crocodiles, but Mr Bairstow, 28, a Rio Tinto bauxite mine worker who was making an adventurous trip around Australia, is lucky to have survived and has serious injuries to his legs from the attack.
