A reporter was met at the door of the church by “security staff” who checked there were no concealed weapons.
The reporter was then escorted to Queen Elizabeth II who sat on her throne, celebrating her birthday.
She was joined by about 25 of her loyal
“subjects” who are members of the Port Pirie ‘Friendship Group.
After an introduction and a rather clumsy curtsy from the reporter an interview was allowed.
It was all part of the fun of a morning tea to celebrate the Queen’s birthday and the fourth birthday of the group.
With a love of drama and theatre, Port Pirie resident Ruby Miller graciously played Queen Elizabeth to perfection, flashing her jewellery and speaking in the Queen’s voice.
Mrs Miller who is a singing teacher and
volunteer at the Port Pirie Regional Art Gallery has lived here for 2½ years.
She enjoying the challenge of impersonating the famous monarch.
There was much enjoyment among the
members who were decked out in all their
finery.
They were served with coffee, tea and cakes. The group meets every Friday morning at the church.
One of the members said: “It gives me
something to get out of bed for and to look
forward to every week.” The “Queen” obviously thought it good, too.
