Chorusing the praises of the Youth Camp event, Port Pirie Rotarians gathered for a presentation night that was filled with tears of joy.
Chairwoman of Rotary’s vocational committee Barb Camporeale described the project from inception to the presentation night that followed the event and at which she spoke to fellow Rotarians and members of the community.
The idea of a youth camp came about when Mrs Camporeale first became aware that there were no programs for nine to 13 year-olds, but it was broaching the youth camp idea with Port Pirie Rotary Club president John Brazel that fostered the idea further.
Mr Brazel was also in attendance at both the youth camp and presentation night when the club hosted the sponsors to show appreciation for the
great support the event received.
“Everyone was pleased to see the young people participating, getting involved, and enjoying the event,” he said.
“It was wonderful to see.”
Over the course of the night, another member Craig Rimmer presented both photographs and commentary about the activities that campers participated in to provide an insight into camp life.
Mr Rimmer said that in his three years as a Rotarian, this was the event that made him feel that he had made the most difference.
There were global positioning system activities, a flying fox and even a rock-climbing wall for campers to take a leap of faith from.
Games and activities aimed at building communication skills and teaching respect for one another went a long way and campers will be singing the praises of the camp for all time.
The inaugural Youth Camp 2010 event was held at Errappa in the State’s north.
