Mayor Geoff Brock will stand as an independent for the seat of Frome.
With about a month until the by-election, the Port Pirie Regional Council leader unveiled his plans.
His slogan will be “Your Voice” and he promised
to do whatever is best for the whole electorate, if
elected.
He will go head-to-head in the contest against his Deputy Mayor Cr Neville Wilson, of the Nationals, and Liberal candidate Terry Boylan and Labor’s John Rohde. Strong speculation surrounded his possible
candidacy in recent days.
Former deputy mayor and now Mayor of Clare and Gilbert Valleys Allan Aughey had also been mentioned as possible contender, but this now seems unlikely.
Mr Brock must overcome suspicion about
independent candidates after Port Pirie chose an
independent parliamentarian in the 1970s only to see him join the Labor Party.
Yesterday, Mr Brock vowed to remain approachable and trusted as the mayor and said no matter what the question is, “I will always be there to answer it”.
“The time has come for Frome to be heard and to have the respect and attention we deserve,” he said.
