Former operator of a Beetaloo Valley explosives factory, Quin Investments, has been ordered to pay $40,000 compensation to victims of a blast that killed three people in 2006.
Darren Millington, Damien Harris and Matthew Keeley died in the explosion and their families have attended every court session into the event.
The South Australian Industrial Relations Court ruled in favor of the families. Seventeen victim impact statements were presented, with Matthew’s mother Jane, and his partner Carly Stewart reading their’s to the court.
Industrial Magistrate M. Ardlie said the statements referred to a lack of contact between the victims and company.
The company faced two charges and was fined $95,000 on each count with the maximum penalty being $100,000.
The compensation works out to about $2300 for each of the 17 victims.
