How many times have you been to an art exhibition and wondered what inspired the artist?
The Port Pirie Regional Art Gallery displayed the Treasures from our Collections exhibition where their members shared special pieces of art with the community.
The art treasures included family heirlooms, much-loved works by a family member or a friend.
The stories behind the purchases were also shared.
There were 92 artworks from 21 members.
Ruby Miller was among these members and she shared some of her stories with The Recorder.
"I have here more than 10 of my treasures, including paintings and sculpture," she said.
"One of the pieces is a sketch of me that artist Rob Gutteridge did after spiling wine in my robe. It started as a joke between friends and ended up in art.
"I also have some sketches of Silvio Apponyi from when he broke his hand and had to do it with his left one."
Two other paintings Mrs Miller shared for the exhibition were by Vic Collins, of the hotels she owned in the Adelaide Hills.
Mrs Miller is part of the scenery in both canvases.
Two pieces of glass of Marius Ernest Sabino are also part of her collection that has been grabbing everyone’s attention.
"The Isadora Goodman glass art piece was auctioned and my husband outbid it for me as a surprise," she said.
The exhibition is on until January 29.
