Congratulations messages are coming in thick and fast for Kellie, with Mayor Geoff Brock saying: “I think she is a terrific girl, very unassuming and passionate about her sport”.
‘She was so looking forward to and excited about the Games, and I am so very proud of her, she is an inspiration and a great motivator for her team,” he said.
Christine Hurling, who has coached Kellie for the past few years, is also extremely proud of her achievements.
“She has worked really hard and it is absolutely incredible what she has done,” she said.
“We put in extra practice sessions on Thursday nights to try and improve her game a little,” she said.
Port Pirie and Districts Special Olympics Maxine Bowden was ecstatic about the news.
“We are that proud of Kellie, she is the ideal candidate to be a representative for this sport,” she said.
“She’s our ambassador to the world and she showed that no matter what disability or ability you have, you can put your mind to do anything and to achieve the highest honors in your sport.”
Kellie’s uncle Maurie Dwyer got quite emotional when
talking about his beloved niece.
“She’s had a struggle since she was a little girl, but she has always had a lot of self reliance, we are very proud of her,” he said.
“She’s been an inspiration and we just love her to bits.”
