GO, SKATERS!

The youth of Port Pirie are buzzing with news of $94,600 funding that will see the Skate Park start to take shape by Christmas.

Local BMX rider and Youth Sector Network member Dom Caputo has been waiting for this news for years and said when he heard it was all going to happen he got “tingles down his spine”.

“It is brilliant,” he said. “All of our dreams are

beginning to come true and it is pretty awesome.”

Fellow Youth Sector Network member Ben Russ was about to give up BMX riding in fear of the park never being built.

“I am so glad that it is all happening because the kids of Port Pirie need something to do with their time and a place to hang out,” he said.

Yesterday, Member for Grey Barry Wakelin said the funding would be provided under the Federal Government’s Regional Partnerships program.

He congratulated the community for working together to win the grant, particularly the Flinders Region Area Consultative Committee for helping to achieve the project.

“Would also like to acknowledge the financial

support provided by Youth Sector Network,” he said.

Network chairwoman Jodie Gregg-Smith said the group was excited.

“The State Government didn’t come to the party, but it is a great thing the Federal Government gave us the support we needed,” she said. “It shows they are in touch with the needs of the region.”
